“The weight” in the Wait
Let’s talk about it… the discomfort of the waiting season can sometimes make you want to tussle. It is in this season that we learn to exercise patience, step back, “trust the process” and overall “trust God”, a season that tests our faith (intensely). If we are honest, because this is a space of transparency usually this is the season we want to avoid, but we all have to go through on our journey, realistically more than once. It can be the most uncomfortable season for some of us, especially myself, this season seems to drag itself out, or maybe it just seems that way.
The weight: our worry, doubt, and fear that we carry the uncertainty, and because sometimes let’s admit we have a control problem. Those of us that have to “see it to believe it”, where’s your faith friend? Quote me here, scripture says “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV). The text is straightforward, how much more can we break it down, because we are a people of faith we hope and expect our change and blessings to come even when we can’t see it with our natural eyes. I’m talking to myself as well; this weight is a result of our lack of trust. The weight comes from being tired of being sick and tired, tired of waiting on change, betterment, and newness. The question then becomes “How is your posture?” How will you respond to what you feel is weighted? Perspective check…
The Wait: staying where you are until something changes, stand by and stay in place. Don’t move until God says move! Position yourself. (Read Isiah 40:31) This seems to be the hardest part for some of us and it doesn’t have to be! Think about this; how is your attitude whenever you find yourself in a line at the grocery, sitting in traffic, waiting in the drive-thru; do you go with the flow and chill out or are you frustrated, upset and enraged? These daily activities will tell you a lot about yourself. These are all moments for some character development if we allow it. The wait isn’t to hurt you, delay you, or set you back ten steps but it’s to position you, check your patience, and even your outlook on things. Are we misjudging seasons because we don’t want to do the internal work?
Our waiting season isn’t meant to discourage us but to strengthen us, build our faith, develop us, and show us some of our most vulnerable and weak areas. The wait is preparing us (if we are positioning ourselves) for what God is about to do next, something greater. One of the many lessons waiting teaches us is how necessary faith really is, in this season we can learn to master faith if we wait patiently and go through in the right mindset. I have heard that you have to go through things with the right spirit, there’s a new appreciation for the lessons and the blessings. I personally don’t want to take any of my waiting seasons for granted because there is so much, I can learn about myself and God from them.
